Data Volley: features, audience and pricing

Data Volley is a professional tool for volleyball scouting and analysis. Its strength is data depth and video integration, which also brings equipment and scorer workload requirements.

When people discuss volleyball scouting, Data Volley is one of the first names mentioned. It is a specialist system for recording and analyzing matches, used by teams that need to follow the game in great detail. Is it equally suitable for every club? Not necessarily.

What Data Volley offers

Data Volley 4 lets users record both teams' actions and analyze them by player, skill, rotation, zone or direction. Data Project also describes video integration: users can find rallies using selected criteria and create clips. Professional adds advanced filters, custom analysis and live information sharing through a client interface.

A major advantage is the ability to adjust scouting depth. A scorer can start with basic codes and gradually add information such as zones or combinations. The system is not limited to one type of analysis.

Lite and Professional

Data Project's European product page lists two annual licences: Data Volley 4 Lite at €299 and Professional at €799. According to its comparison table, both include basic scouting, analysis by player, skill and rotation, and video import and synchronization. Professional adds features such as advanced filters and analysis, advanced search, video clips and a Web Client for live sharing. Prices and the exact feature list should be checked again before publication because offers can change.

The official specifications list Windows support and require a computer, an internet connection for activation and updates, and a USB-A port for the licence key. This matters to coaches who want to work on a Mac or tablet.

How hard is it to learn?

Installation is only the beginning. Users need to understand the code system, recording rules and how to turn the data into a useful output. Data Project says scouting can be adapted to a user's abilities and needs, but detailed recording still takes practice. A scorer must watch the game, enter codes quickly and keep the same logic throughout the match.

A club with an experienced statistician that regularly analyzes video can get a lot from the system. A team that only wants to record points and basic team statistics quickly may use only a small part of it.

Who might benefit?

Data Volley makes sense when a coaching staff prepares opponents in detail, analyzes video and has someone who can scout matches regularly. It may be less suitable for a club without a trained scorer or a need for detailed analysis.

Compare more than the licence price: consider training time, computer requirements, how many people will work with the data, and whether the club will use video and advanced analysis. Volleyball statistics can be valuable in a simpler system too, if the coach returns to them after the match.
